Immerse yourself in the world of chocolate – the Chocoversum by Hachez in Hamburg makes it possible! This interactive museum takes you on a sweet journey from the cocoa bean to the finished chocolate bar. Learn everything about the history of chocolate, how it is made and the different varieties. And best of all: snacking is allowed!
The sweet idea of a chocolate museum
The idea for the Chocoversum was born out of a passion for chocolate. The traditional Hamburg company Hachez, known for its exquisite chocolate creations, wanted to bring people closer to the world of chocolate. The Chocoversum opened in 2011 and has since become a popular excursion destination for young and old.
From bean to bar: an interactive journey of discovery
At Chocoversum, you will accompany the cocoa bean on its journey to becoming a finished bar of chocolate. The exhibition is designed to be interactive, inviting you to join in and try things out. You will learn how cocoa beans are grown, harvested and processed. You will get to know the different types of chocolate and can even make your own chocolate.
Highlights of the exhibition
The tropical rainforest: Find out where the cocoa tree grows and take a closer look at the cocoa fruit.
The harbour: Learn all about the long journey of the cocoa beans to the processing plant.
The roasting: Experience the fascinating process of cocoa roasting, learn more about the ball roaster and find out how the beans get their typical aroma.
The chocolate mill: Grind cocoa beans into cocoa paste and learn how chocolate is made from it.
The conche: See how the chocolate is refined in the conche and acquires its delicate texture.
The Chocolate Workshop: Become a chocolatier yourself and create your own chocolate bar with your favourite ingredients.
Snacking encouraged!
Of course, you can also snack to your heart’s content in the Chocoversum. At the various stations, you can try different types of chocolate and discover new flavours. In the museum shop, you will find a wide selection of chocolates and other sweet specialities.
An experience for the whole family
The Chocoversum is an ideal excursion for the whole family. Children and adults alike will get their money’s worth here. This is especially true at the end of the chocolate tour, when it comes to creating your own chocolate. The chocolate workshop has everything you need to do this – even colourful Smarties or gummy bears.
