A social haven with prospects

Right in the heart of Hamburg, directly beneath the Rathausmarkt, lies a place that is much more than just a shopping street: the Rathauspassage. It is a unique social project that offers the long-term unemployed a new opportunity on the job market and is also an important meeting place for Hamburg residents and tourists alike. The concept behind the passage combines social commitment with economic activity, creating a place of encounter and hope.

A springboard for the long-term unemployed

The idea behind Rathauspassage is to reintegrate people who have been unemployed for a long time into the labour market. Here, they are employed in various areas such as catering, retail or as service staff. Under expert guidance, participants can learn practical skills, boost their self-confidence and make new social contacts. The Rathauspassage thus acts as a kind of springboard, paving the way back to a self-determined life.

What is there in the Rathauspassage?

The selection is diverse and caters to a variety of needs. The centrepiece is undoubtedly the Cafédrale with its range of delicious homemade food, coffee and cakes. For those in a hurry, there is the Ankerplatz, which offers coffee to go as well as small snacks.
Another highlight is the Kehrwieder bookshop. Here, lovers of antiquarian books can go on a treasure hunt; bookworms will also find second-hand copies for little money. New books and bestsellers can also be found here, with a focus on books about Hamburg.

Further offers

In addition to the café and bookshop, there are other attractions such as a ticket counter and various events that keep the passage lively.
The Rathauspassage is not only a good tip for taking a break with a view of the Kleine Alster, but also for exploring the city with its ever-changing attractions.

A place of solidarity and togetherness

The Rathauspassage shows that economic success and social responsibility can go hand in hand. For visitors, it is not only an opportunity to shop or stop for a bite to eat, but also to support a project that opens up new perspectives for people in difficult life situations. A visit to the Rathauspassage is therefore always a statement in favour of a more humane and supportive society.
