DER FELDSTRASSEN BUNKER
Living history

Hamburg's green colossus: the Feldstraße bunker
In the middle of the vibrant St. Pauli district, a massive concrete giant rises up into the sky: the Feldstraße Bunker. Once a dark relic of the Second World War, the former flak bunker now shines in new splendour. After extensive reconstruction work, it has become a unique place for encounters, culture and nature. Particularly impressive is the newly created spiral path that winds around the bunker and offers visitors a breathtaking view of the city.
From war bunker to cultural centre
The Feldstraße Bunker was built in the 1940s as an air-raid shelter and offered protection from the bombing raids of the Second World War. After the war, it served a variety of purposes, including as emergency accommodation and storage space. In the 1990s, the bunker developed into a centre for the alternative cultural and media scene. Today, in addition to cultural institutions such as the music club ‘Uebel & Gefährlich’, it also houses a hotel, restaurants and a roof with 4,700 trees, bushes and plants of all kinds.
The Bunker Trail: a walk at lofty heights
The highlight of the Feldstraße Bunker is the newly created 560-metre-long spiral path that winds its way around the building. Ramps and stairs take visitors to the roof of the bunker, where they can enjoy a fantastic panoramic view of Hamburg. The path is barrier-free and invites you to stroll, linger and discover.
Urban gardening and green oasis
The Bunker Path is not only an architectural masterpiece, but also a contribution to urban greening. Numerous trees, shrubs and flowers have been planted along the path, giving the bunker a green look. A public garden has been created on the roof of the bunker, inviting people to relax and enjoy themselves. There are seating areas, playgrounds and even a café.

Rock ‘n’ Roll in the bunker: REVERB by Hard Rock Hotel
In July 2024, the REVERB by Hard Rock Hotel opened its doors in the Feldstraßenbunker. The stylish hotel offers 134 rooms in an urban design and exudes the typical rock ‘n’ roll charm of the Hard Rock brand. In addition to comfortable rooms, guests can expect a restaurant, a bar, a café and a Rock Shop. From the rooms and the roof terrace, you can enjoy spectacular views of the city.

A place to meet
Today, the Feldstraße Bunker is a vibrant meeting place. People from different generations and with different interests come together here to experience culture, enjoy nature or simply let their gaze wander over the city. The bunker is a symbol of change and shows how a place of the past can be transformed into a forward-looking project.
