WESTFIELD HAMBURG

Far more than a traditional shopping centre

Westfield-Kinopolis

A slice of life in HafenCity

Westfield Hamburg-Überseequartier is much more than a traditional shopping centre – it is a visionary piece of urban development that transforms Hamburg’s HafenCity into a vibrant hub. Covering an area of around 419,000 square metres, it combines shopping, entertainment, living and working into a state-of-the-art quarter that blends the maritime soul of the Hanseatic city with international flair.

An architectural sail at the harbour

The architecture is the first thing that amazes visitors. In a collaboration between eleven national and international architects, 14 striking buildings were created that blend harmoniously into the maritime environment between Speicherstadt and the Elbe. The gigantic glass roof, resting on 34 columns, is an absolute eye-catcher. With 8,535 individually shaped glass panes, the structure looks like a light-flooded, billowing sail. This transparency ensures that the quarter feels open and spacious. Sustainability was a key focus: the project meets the highest environmental standards.

Superlative shopping and experiences

Westfield offers a variety of brands that is unrivalled in northern Germany. More than 170 shops ensure a pleasant shopping experience. A particular highlight is the Breuninger flagship store, which presents premium fashion across three floors. In addition, there are global brands such as Zara, Adidas, Calvin Klein and Tommy Hilfiger, as well as specialised concepts such as the Lego Discovery Centre, which delights builders young and old with over two million bricks. But the concept goes far beyond retail: visitors to Westfield will find more than 40 restaurants and cafés catering to every taste, from street food to gourmet cuisine. The Port des Lumières is also a centre for immersive art, where masterpieces of painting are brought to life, offering a fresh perspective on art. Kinopolis, Hamburg’s largest and most modern cinema, offers another form of entertainment.

Why tourists should visit Westfield

For tourists visiting Hamburg, the neighbourhood is an absolute magnet for three reasons. Firstly, its location: it is in the immediate vicinity of the UNESCO World Heritage Site Speicherstadt and the Elbphilharmonie concert hall. A visit can be perfectly combined with a harbour tour. Secondly, the cruise terminal: with an integrated terminal, guests from all over the world arrive right in the heart of the action. Thirdly, the view: the waterfront promenade invites visitors to stroll and offers spectacular photo opportunities of the passing container giants and the HafenCity skyline. The Westfield is therefore not only a place to shop, but also an attraction in its own right, representing modern Hamburg.
